So, this week is focused on, say it with me, DIP! PIP! MIP! and Thumb! Doc said week 3 exercises are the most crucial as tendons get their weakest after surgery in week 3.
Ok, real quick. Put your thumb in the “hitchhiker” or “Good job!” position. Then, open your fingers. Then, bend your fingers back in part way, like almost to a fist.
In those quick little movements, you incorporated so many processes that we take for granted! I had to exercise my thumb more frequently as it was becoming stiff from lack of movement with the cast. The hitchhiker position was excruciating! I also have to bend and flex each joint (DIP, PIP, MIP) of each finger with 15 reps using my uninjured hand EVERY HOUR! Ooo-wee!
What God is teaching me….
- There’s power in patience. When you’re forced to go against every ounce of your will and mind, you learn to understand and appreciate the power you actually possess in taming yourself from your own self, which then transcends to other areas of your life! You are strong! God has equipped us for this world!
- I couldn’t find any info (and forgot to ask doc) WHY?? in week 3 do the tendons get weakest? But, surgeons already know this and have exercises in place for you in order to assist you. I thought about Jesus telling the disciples they (we) will have trouble in this world, but fear not, HE has overcome the world! He told us bad stuff is going to happen, y’all! Stop being mad at God, or even surprised on how you can walk in what you already are in Christ Jesus–AN OVERCOMER!! God has things already in place for you to “come over” from, which are found in his word, for every trial.
- Movement matters! My unhurt thumb has been stiffened and made stagnate by my hurt fingers. Once I began moving it–even though it hurt–it began remembering it ISN’T hurt and can move! It just needed a push! 😉 Y’all betta move away from hurt people who refuse to seek the tools necessary to heal. They will stifle you and cause you to become immovable when you are the healthy one! Embrace those around you giving you that little push of reminding you of who you are! They know you can move!
